Over the past 39 years, the Gathering of Nations Powwow has featured a variety of recipes in the Gathering of Nations Powwow Event Magazine section called "Powwow Kitchen". Many of the recipes are reflective of Native American culture and cuisine. Tribes across the Americas have contributed to some of the most popular dishes and menu items found in restaurants and on dinner tables. Included with the recipes are short narrative of the unique history and origins of the ingredients or recipes themselves. Many of the recipes include traditional foods that are grown and harvested in regions of tribal communities; as well as recipes that are just simply, comfort food.
The concept of this cookbook is also a picture book of the many years of Gathering of Nations Powwow Poster Art, photographs, and music from the Gathering of Nations, giving a well-rounded experience of this majestic event. The archives from the Gathering of Nations are deep and this book is an opportunity to see some magnificent artwork and themes the Gathering of Nations Powwow. Featured are photographs by Derek Mathews, LeAndra Madalena, and Will Huston.
